Blog 1 – 4HD Transformers – Introduction

Blog 1 – 4HD Transformers – Introduction
When you think of transformers you can see a picture of a grey blue structure standing at the end of your road with wires running in both directions. But do you ever stand and wonder the importance of those structures for yourselves as a consumer? Do you ever think if they are all the same or different, what do they contain, whether their components pose any danger to the environment, or if there are different components that can be used to make it less harmful for the environment? Well if you haven’t its high time you do! With the Environment day celebrations, the global warming awareness, the environment saving drives etc. it is important that we try to move towards greener options of every product that we use.

We as a company are committed towards a green plant and green product development. It was this passion to reduce carbon footprint that led to researching and building 4HD transformers. The 4 Dimensional High(s)!!

What is 4HD?

4HD symbolizes the Higher efficiency, High insulation, Higher fire safety and Highly Environment friendly.

a)      Higher Efficiency – 4HD transformers conform to IS 1180 standards Level 2 and 3. (To read about the IS 1180 click here). Ester oil transformers are not covered under IS 1180 so they need not be very efficient yet, but 4HD is Level 2 and 3 compliant.
b)      High Insulation – 4HD uses thermally upgraded paper insulation.
c)       Higher Fire protection - We are pioneers to start the use of Organic (Ester) Oil in Transformers in India. Organic (Ester) oil has a high flash point, thus increasing fire safety.
d)      Highly environment friendly – there are multiple aspects of 4HD transformers which make it environment friendly, the use Organic (Ester) oil which is biodegradable and has a negligible carbon footprint in comparison to mineral oil.

How does 4HD Transformer fair against other Transformers

4HD Vs. Mineral oil traditional transformer

So now we come to the more interesting and relevant part. You can ask what is such a big deal about this 4HD, it sounds promising but the existing ones are doing their job, why do you need to read this or know about this. Well existing transformers are performing their job, as any transformer is expected to do. But areas where 4HD go beyond are efficiency, life, reliability, maintenance, safety, compact size and most important – helps reduce carbon footprint.

4HD Vs. Dry Type or Air Cooled Transformer

There are transformers which are air cooled (environment friendly right, but wait….) but they do use epoxy coating which produces not so good fumes when heated. 4HD can fair better than those too in being environment friendly, power efficient with less losses, cost efficient and fire safe. Dry type are mostly used in underground establishments, so a compact substation is also the choice of newer establishments, 4HD being compact in size are more preferable and economical.

Who do we recommend it to?

Anyone and everyone who need a transformer or a compact substation.  It is specially recommended for 1) basement installations,
2) Places prone to fire hazard,
3) Places like farmlands (mineral oil leakage damages the soil),
4) Sensitive area like schools, hospitals,
5) Areas where electrical supply reliability is a necessity and cannot be compromised – certain industries and hospitals etc.
